THTR 251: Introduction
to Technical Theatre and Design
This class is an
introduction to the elements of theatrical design, scenic painting
and scenic construction and lighting. This is a hands-on class.
Upon completion of this course, one should be familiar with the
basic procedure in creation of a design, and be able to create
an aesthetic representation of a theatrical design on paper.
Drawing and rendering will be covered. This is a five-unit
course with a mandatory lab section. Safety procedures will
be stressed.
Specific Goals:
1. To provide the
student with an appreciation and awareness of the design and
implementation process of theatre.
2. To provide the student with criteria which to make value judgments
relating design and technical production.
3. To provide the student with a basic dramatic vocabulary in
order to discuss the design process.
4. To expose the student to appropriate materials and procedures
involved in producing a realized design.
5. To spur the creative and imaginative process of technical
theatre and design.
