EnACT AIM: The Research Paper: Identifying Sources, Organizing Material, and Communicating Results

INTRODUCTION

This AIM is designed to be usable both by instructors (in class) and students independently to learn how to produce a credible research paper, from identifying appropriate literature, to organizing the material, and finally producing a written document. The presentation is video-based, with supporting textual materials and references that assist students with selecting search terms, performing Boolean searches, writing assistance, avoiding plagiarism, and citing sources. The first component is a video clip of a “box activity” that demonstrates the steps and content of a research paper. The second component is a video clip demonstrating a “note card activity” that can be used by instructors in the classroom. The third component is a series of PowerPoint slides on the steps for writing a research paper. Finally, the fourth component is an outline detailing the step by step process for writing a research paper.
