Lab Assignment Due next class
Topic: Assignment:
More Word review and new
functions: Drawing Tools
Review : The goal this
quarter is to make you a "hacker"
(problem solver) capable of figuring out how to ask and answer
questions about
computers and solve your computer problems. Knowing exactly how to perform every function in programs is
not the goal but vocabulary
is important! Without the appropriate term you cannot
search for an answer!

their web page for times. |
Vocabulary
Review of terms from
GS104a assignments and
the
text. Most you probably know and have in your dictionary.
The terms with an "*" you will be expected to be able to define and
give examples
without accessing other sources. Check with a GS104 instructor or
the class assiastant if you need help with these terms. In
addition to
the class and text documentation you can
also check this Glossary
or Google for
help with definitions you may not find

(1) New functions in Word:
(a) Many of these were not
covered last
quarter.
You do not have to
remember how to do them but simply have an understanding of what they
do if you need them. Check
out those functions listed in bold that
you do not recognize. It
will not be
expected that you can perform these
functions from memory but
you
may be asked to look up explain and perform some of these functions on
the
next quiz so
be prepared.
(b)
Examine the lessons with an * below a little more closely
since they
treat functions commonly used in college papers.. Make sure you
understand the bold
items. You
may be asked questions about some
of these functions and
expected to perform them on the next quiz
so be prepared.

(3) Assignment:
Use any paper
you have written are you are working on for a class this
quarter. If you do not have a paper just copy text from a
web source and formatt as a class paper (Place quotes around all text
copied and list the source in the reference page). Your paper
must have the following formats: double spaced,
tabs,
have a numbered and
a bulleted list, a header (with
your name and the page number in the right top margin), a footnote
(just make one up if you
don't have
a footnote), a section break, to
force text to the top of the
following
page--use at the end of the paper to force reference page on a seperate
page, reference page (with hanging
paragraph form for references) and last place in front a title page with a
title your
name, class and date centered on the page. The title page should
have neither a header or footer. This is a sample
formatted paper.
Name your paper
Classpaper.doc
and save it in:
My Documents/_GST104
Portfolio/6 Word Processing/Classpaper.doc
(4) Dictionary and FAQ: Make sure you have the terms with an
"*" defined and a good example where relevant. You have defined
most of these
terms previously in your dictionary. Improve on previously
defined terms if possible and define new terms in your own words (not
just copy and
pasted from
another source). Your definitions should be clear, complete and
understandable to someone like your
self who is not in this class. Your understanding the
concept is the goal for creating definitions. If you do not
understand a concept ask fellow class members then your instructor if
needed. Add any problems and solutions you think are important
enough to your FAQ.
(5)
Review any new additions to Computers
and Society Links.
Erase
the previous documents
from your
homework folder (mine would be named
rossjHW). Make a
copy of all homework, in
red above, and place in this
folder on
your computer-be sure and erase old homework from this folder.
You will copy this folder to the class folder on transfer at the
beginning of the next
class.
