Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 25-27, 8 pm Our festival of student-written and student-directed one-acts. Come and celebrate the creativity and skills of these young playwrights and directors. Four short plays were selected through a competition held last spring. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦The Arkansaw Bear
By Aurand Harris This award-winning play is considered one of the classics in theatre for young audiences. Saddened and bewildered at her grandfather's approaching death, Tish runs to her "special tree." There, in a world of fantasy, provided by her wishing on a Star, she meets the World's Greatest Dancing Bear. He is old, like her grandfather, and is running away—from death. In trying to help him, she begins to understand the meaning of both life and death, which helps her to cope with her own sadness. The play blends realism and fantasy, pathos and humor. Delightfully theatrical, with music, magic and dance. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Merry Wives of Windsor
By William Shakespeare Shakespeare's beloved comedy features one of his most delightful scoundrels—Sir John Falstaff. In need of money and learning of two married women said to control their own financial affairs, Falstaff hatches a plot. He'll play the love-struck man and woo both wives at the same time. Once these wives learn of Falstaff's true intentions, they combine forces to seek revenge and expose his trickery. Mixing silliness with social commentary, Merry Wives is an entertaining comic romp.
