The Seven Information Competencies

    Competency One: State a research question, problem, or issue

    Competency Two: Determine the information requirements for a research question, problem, or issue and formulate a search strategy that will use a variety of resources.

    Competency Three: Evaluate, organize, select, and use appropriate traditional and new technologies.

    Competency Four: Create and communicate information effectively using a variety of information technologies.

    Competency Five: Understand the ethical, legal, and sociopolitical issues surrounding information and information technology.

    Competency Six: Understand the techniques, points of view, and practices employed in the presentation of information received from various media.

Competency Seven: Understand, evaluate, and use relevant information received from various media.
