Study Description:
This data is used for teaching purposes only. It was collected in a rather ad hoc fashon from classes I taught over several years. I make copies of the deviance survey, place post-it tape on the left margin for answers and pass it out to Introductory Sociology, Deviance, Research Methods, etc courses. I then pull off all the post-it tapes and create a page or pages of data.

The research methods students create a spreadsheet and SPSS data set with labels and perform labeling, data manipulation and rudimentary analysis on the data. The deviance survey was originally created by Dr. Phillip Reichel, who give the survey to students at the University of Georgia. Out of the more than 1,000 students he gave the survey to, no one said they had committed none of these acts. Students owed the state at least 1 year in jail and the average was 25 years. He used the data in lectures on deviance. I suggest collecting your own deviance data.
