Added Authorization in Autism

CSUB offers an approved Added Authorization in Special Education (AASE) in Autism. The added authorization will allow holders of Levels I and II Mild/Moderate and other credentials to work with K-12 students (up through age 22) with autism spectrum disorders. The Added Authorization in ASD is required by CTC for teachers who (1) work with students with autism spectrum disorders; and (2) have a Level I or Level II credential in following areas: Mild/Moderate; Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Visual Impairments; Physical and Health Impairments; and Old Learning Handicapped (LH), Physical Handicaps (PH), Communication Handicaps (CH), Visual Handicaps (VH).

Required Courses for CSUB Added Authorization in Autism program

  1. EDSP 570/870 (4 units): Characteristics and Needs of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  2. EDSP 575/875 (4 units): Collaborative Partnership for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  3. EDSP 580/880 (4 units): Behavioral Assessment and Interventions for Students with
    Autism Spectrum Disorder
  4. EDSP 585/885 (4 units): Instructional Strategies for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Requests for course equivalency

Transcript evaluation of courses will be conducted for students who request a transfer of courses taken from another university. Candidates will need to complete a course equivalency form with necessary documents. Course description and student learning outcomes should be close to the courses from the AA program to be considered as being equivalent.

Registration Information

The program will be offered via the Extended University. You do not need to be admitted to the university to enroll in the required courses.

There are two options for registration. Those needing graduate level credit should enroll in the 500 series ($195 per unit). Those taking the classes for professional development units (CE units) should enroll in the 800 series ($75 per unit).
