The Department offers a B.S. degree in Physical Education and Kinesiology. Students can choose from the following 2 concentrations:
Physical Education Teacher Preparation
Students who complete the concentration in Physical Education prepare to enter a state-required single subject credential program necessary to teach in California elementary, junior high, and high schools. Students who desire to coach as well as teach have the opportunity to select various theory of coaching courses within the major to prepare for coaching careers.
The concentration in Exercise Science prepares students for careers in the fitness/wellness industry and certain clinical rehabilitation settings. This concentration also provides students with the opportunity to prepare for advanced studies in related disciplines and professional academic programs. This concentration prepares students for nationally recognized professional certifications offered by the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
The PEAK Department recognizes the value and importance of physical activity as part of an individual's lifestyle. Each quarter the Department offers a variety of sport and physical activity courses that students can enroll in for 1-unit of credit. Some common courses taught throughout the year include yoga, indoor cycling, interval training, and basketball. Please refer to the current course schedule in MyCSUB for a complete listing.
The CSUB PEAK program has challenged me and made me a better college student and I would not be the student I am without the program. The staff was extremely helpful and I am grateful for their help over the past few years.
