Educational Counseling Program Requirements*
Step 1: BA or BS Degree
Complete a Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited university (or a minimum 3.0 graduate GPA after 15 or more units completed).
Step 2: CBEST (School Counseling/PPS only)
Obtain passing scores on the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). CBEST
registration, test information, and test preparation materials are available on the CBEST Web
Step 3: Statistics
Successfully complete EDRS 680, Educational Statistics within 5 years of application to the program with a grade of "C" or higher. Note: If you are unable to take EDRS 680 before you begin the Educational Counseling program, you will be asked to complete it within your first two quarters in the program.
Step 4: Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR)
All graduate students who apply for a master's degree must demonstrate upper-division writing competency. If you received your undergraduate degree from a college or university other than a CSU or a UC, you must show proof that you have satisfied this requirement. Step 5: University Application for Graduate Study
Submit a Graduate Admission Application to CSUB’s Office of Admissions and Records. On Part B of the application, designate code 08261 for School Counseling, 08051 for Student Affairs, and 802 for PPS only. The application may be submitted online at: http://www.csumentor.edu/
Step 6: Counseling Program Application
Submit a completed

Step 7 Check the Status of your University and EDCS Program Application
You may check your admissions status online at myCSUB. You will receive an email from CSUB Admissions and Records acknowledging receipt of your application along with your specific CSUB ID number and login instructions. Pay particular attention to any outstanding "To-do" list items that you need to complete.
