Preliminary
The exemplary Special Education programs at CSU Bakersfield are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The Preliminary Program prepares candidates for a career in teaching K-12 students who have Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe disabilities and receive special education services.
Every candidate’s individualized program includes 53 semester units of course work in general education and in special education across three developmental phases. Candidates choose either the Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe program. Upon completion of the Preliminary Education Specialist Program, candidates are expected to continue with the Professional Clear Credential program.

Internship Program
The Intern Program is an alternative pathway toward the certification of becoming a California Credentialed Teacher. Interns typically work full time during the day and take classes at night. It can take up to two years to complete the teaching program and earn a Preliminary/Level One California Teaching Credential.
Master's Degree
The Special Education M.A. Degree program at CSUB is designed to provide candidates with knowledge and competencies necessary to take on leadership roles in the field of Special Education. The CSUB Special Education M.A. degree program ia designed to reflect the standards established by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
