Dean's welcome

Craig Kelsey Craig Kelsey, Interim Dean
School of Education
California State University, Bakersfield

Welcome to the School of Education at California State University, Bakersfield. The goal of the School of Education is to recruit, retain, and certify the best individuals to serve the students and families of the greater Kern County Region. We do this by having the best programs, the most qualified faculty, and the friendliest staff of any university in the region.

Programs in the School of Education are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). These programs include: Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education, Special Education, Counseling, Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, Reading, Child Adolescent and Family Studies, and Physical Education and Kinesiology. Many of our programs are also nationally certified in their own discipline. We are the only School of Education in the entire Kern County region that has this national designation. Our programs must maintain the highest quality teaching, scholarship, and service to the entire community in order to maintain this important level of certification.

We are proud that the full-time faculty in the School of Education have a doctoral degree from an accredited university. Each course is taught by a professor with experience in the professional field within his or her scope of practice. Occasionally, a person with a master's degree may teach a course using their in-depth knowledge of the subject and current practice in a very specialized field. Our faculty are available on campus throughout the day and most evenings, and are available to students to provide support in teaching and student scholarship.

Our School of Education is becoming the university of choice for the region because of the service provided by all members of the staff and faculty. Students report how thankful they are for the extra effort received from staff to make their experience at CSUB successful. We look forward to serving you.
