Interdisciplinary and Multi-disciplinary Advisement Options

The Interdisciplinary advisement option is for the professional who would like to create his or her own specialization from among the offerings. Working with an advisor, the candidate is involved in designing a program to meet individual needs. Participants in this option generally are teachers seeking specific ways to improve or enhance their teaching practice.

Candidates may draw from a range of courses including face-to-face course offerings and those offered online. The C&I core is required for this program as it is with other alternatives. Candidates and their advisors select from a range of courses and through consulting the two year plan for course offerings as they develop the highly individualized program. Often, candidates for this option take courses from EdTech and Field-based in addition to the other C&I courses.

Additionally, the Curriculum and Instruction Program cooperates with other university programs and departments to afford students meaningful and academically challenging options. Two examples are listed below.

Literacy-C&I students may take the Literacy Certificate sequence (EDLT 501-505MS) and have each of the courses count towards their C&I MA. With permission of the Literacy Program, they also may take one or two of the courses as D&I electives. Students should work with their C&I advisor and Dr. Geri Mohler of the Literacy Program.

PEAK (Physical Education and Kinesiology)-PEAK and C&I are collaborating to enable students who desire additional academic study in Physical Education or Kinesiology to gain those experiences and complete their studies for an MA. The primary advisor for this option is Dr. Don Diboll of PEAK.
