Dr. Mohamed El-Ansary, Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Dr. Mohamed El-Ansary has been honored as the 2012-2013 recipient of the Millie Ablin Excellence in Teaching Award. With a career that spans more than forty years, Dr. El-Ansary is the embodiment of excellence in teaching.
After receiving his Ph. D. from Michigan State University in 1983, Dr. El-Ansary joined CSUB in fall of that year as Assistant Professor of Mathematics.
During the 29 years of excellence in teaching on this campus it is evident that Dr. El-Ansary's passion is teaching. This is an attribute which becomes immediately clear to anyone who meets him professionally. Dr. El-Ansary is a professor who has the skill to transmit this passion to his students while remaining true to the requisites of clarity, high standard, and innovation, all necessary for teaching excellence. He is a professor that motivates true higher learning and students to reach their highest potential. While Dr. El- Ansary's standards are the highest among faculty in this Department, his students consistently identify him as one of their favorite and valued University instructors. This is evident when students modify their whole schedule to make sure that they can take Dr. El-Ansary's classes. He treats students with respect and dignity and expects the same in return. He motivates students to work hard and tells them "Do your best and the grades will follow." He explains the reasons behind the mathematical concepts, giving students good foundation.
Student evaluations have and continue to be stellar. Comments such as: "Great. Has a real talent for making complex subjects clear", "Always willing to help even if it wasn't during office hours", "Best teacher I've had. In the future, I'd like to be like Dr. El- Ansary", or "He has high standards but he believes in all of us to go above and beyond them" are prevalent in Dr. El-Ansary's SOCI, which also demonstrate near perfect responses to the questions: "The instructor seemed enthusiastic about the subject", "The instructor challenged me intellectually in this course", and "I would recommend this instructor". It's no wonder, when indicating the areas of improvement for Dr. El-Ansary, one student wrote "He's the best why would he need improvement".
Although service and scholarly activity are not components critical to the Millie Ablin Excellence in Teaching Award, Dr. El-Ansary is well respected and has a solid record in these areas. He has published widely in his research both nationally and internationally. Dr. El-Ansary presented talks in the areas of Control Theory and Singular Perturbation as related to Linear and Nonlinear Stochastic Systems with
Wide?Band Noises in December 2008, at Cairo University and at the Engineering and Mathematics Department of Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Also, he has recently submitted a paper for possible publication titled `` Deterministic Singularly Perturbed Systems and Automatic Control.''
Dr. El-Ansary has been an inspiration to many students. His contributions to the university and the field of mathematics are exceptional. We are honored to have Dr. El-Ansary on the faculty in Mathematics at California State University, Bakersfield.
