How do I make an appointment with an NSME General advisor?

Schedule a meeting with an advisor at the NSME Student Center located in Science I, Rm. 116 or call us at (661)654-6322. Please leave a message including your name, major, CSUB ID number, and call-back number if you get our voicemail. We will call you back as soon as possible.


How do I find out who my faculty (major-specific) advisor is?

  1. Log onto your myCSUB account.
  2. Scroll down and find the Advisor section on the right-hand side.
  3. The name of your advisor will be listed in the Advisor section. Click “details” for information regarding your faculty advisor.
  4. If no advisor name is present, please call the appropriate number listed on the box to have one assigned to you. 


What is the difference between my faculty advisor and the general NSME advisors?

  • Faculty advisors are major specific and help you with major-specific requirements/classes and provide you with guidelines to the career (in that major) that you want to pursue. 
  • NSME General Advisors can help with overall general academic requirements, 4-year plans, general education requirements, and other general issues. 


How do I get my advising hold removed?

  • Freshman and Sophomore level students can schedule a meeting with your assigned faculty advisor or with an advisor at the NSME Student Center located in Science I, Rm. 116 or call us at (661)654-6322.

           i.      Biology students (including Human Biology and Natural Sciences majors) must meet with their faculty advisor to get their advising hold removed.

  • Junior and Senior level students must meet with their faculty advisor to have their hold removed.


When is the last day to add/drop classes?

  1. For Fall 2017 – the last day to add classes is September 6th. Any add slips submitted after this date must have professor signature/approval.
  2. Fall 2017 Census Day – September 25th. This is the last day the NSME Student Center will process any add slips. Any add slips after this date must have the professor signature/approval, the Student Financial Services’ stamp/signature, and then submitted to Admissions and Records. This is also the last day to withdraw from classes without a “W” being recorded into your transcript.
  3. For Spring 2018 – the last day to add classes is January 30th. Any add slips submitted after this date must have professor signature/approval.
  4. Spring 2018 Census Day – February 16th This is the last day the NSME Student Center will process any add slips. Any add slips after this date must have the professor signature/approval, the Student Financial Services’ stamp/signature, and then submitted to Admissions and Records. This is also the last day to withdraw from classes without a “W” being recorded into your transcript.


How do I register/find classes without using Schedule Builder?

  1. On your myCSUB, click “Enroll” in the Academics section.
  2. Click “Search” and insert appropriate information in the search criteria to find classes.
  3. Please keep in mind that having “Show Open Classes Only” checked may limit your search.
  4. Once you have found a class to add, click “Select.” 
  5. If the class is waitlisted, make sure to check the “Wait list if class is full” option, otherwise, click “Next.”
  6. The class will be added to your shopping cart. Click “Proceed to Step 2 of 3.”
  7. Click “Finish Enrolling.”
  8. Please note of any time conflicts or pre-requisite errors that may prevent you from registering from classes. If you get errors, please contact the NSME Student Center. 


How do I drop a class?

  1. On your myCSUB, click “Enroll” in the Academics section.
  2. Click the “Drop” tab on the top.
  3. Click the class or classes you wish to drop.
  4. Click “Drop Selected Classes.”
  5. The system should now drop you from the classes. If you are having trouble dropping them, please contact the NSME Student Center.
  6. Please note that for Fall 2017, the last date to drop classes without a “W” on your transcript is on September 25th. For Spring 2018, the last date to drop classes without a “W” on your transcript is on February 16th


Where can I get an add/drop slip?

  1. Add/Drop slips are available to pickup at the NSME Student Center at Science I, Rm. 116.
  2. They are also available to download and print on your own. Please see attached link.

I have a prerequisite error and am currently enrolled in the prerequisite course. How do I add?

  1. If you are currently taking the pre-requisite course for a class that you want to add for the following semester, simply fill out an add slip with the correct information (no professor signature/approval needed), and turn it in to the NSME Student Center either in person or by email.
  2. If you wish to take the class and its pre-requisite class on the same semester, you will need to have professor signature/approval (of the class needing the pre-requisite) on your add slip. Turn in the add slip to the NSME Student Center.
