Welcome to the School of Education (SOE) School Academic Council (SAC) website! The SAC has a long tradition of faculty serving in the SOE using shared governance. Please use this website to access our SOE Handbook, By-laws, 08-09 calendar and agendas, awards information for faculty and staff, photo gallery of SOE faculty events as well as to reference the SAC membership for 08-09.
Dr. Dianne Turner did excellent work in setting up this web site, celebrating the SOE, and challenging us to maintain this new tradition. However, since there is no way (!) that I can even approach Dr. Turner's artistic creativity, I will need her continuing help and advice.
I am suggesting two goals for SAC which can be summarized by the words "trust" and "communication." If we all agree that trust is a worthy goal, SAC deliberations and recommendations should build trust. Likewise, communication is essential--particularly communication that enables all of us to promote the School of Education. The role of higher education in preparing teachers, counselors, and administrators has been eroding. However, if we believe in the underlying rationale for higher education professional preparation programs, we need to know what each of us is doing so as to promote our programs. We need to know what is uniquely excellent about each of our programs so that we can be mutually supportive. During this 08-09 school year, let's develop trust and good communication.
