Women's Soccer vs. San Jose State -San Jose State goalkeeper Nina Butera, left, takes down CSUB freshman forward Brittany Thomas in the first half as the Spartans defeated the Roadrunners 2-0.

The CSUB women's soccer team surrendered two goals in the second half, after a scoreless first half, falling to visiting San Jose State 2-0 on Sunday, Oct. 25, on the Main Soccer Field.

The Roadrunners (5-10-2) out-shot the Spartans 13-7, but Spartan goalkeepers Nina Butera and Danielle Anderson had two saves each to preserve the team's seventh shutout of the season, tying a school record.

"I thought we had a great first half with a lot of chances," junior midfielder Sarah Gaskins said.  "We just weren't able to put them away. ... It was an unfortunate loss, but we can look forward to improving next game."

Spartan forward Kelsey Lord broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute by scoring her sixth goal of the season, heading the ball into the back of the goal.  Fellow forward Katie Bonadies made the score 2-0 after she one-touched a cross from defender Lauren Ng-Pinkerton past CSUB freshman goalkeeper Jessica Montano in the 77th minute.

The 'Runners started off fast, out-shooting the Spartans 5-1 in the first half, but had nothing to show for it as Butera stopped both shots on goal.  The 'Runners out-shot the Spartans (10-4-3) in the second half, 6-8, but the two shots on goal were stopped by Anderson.

Junior forward Denise Hernandez led all 'Runners with three shots, while junior Tara Corcoran and freshman Yesenia Reyes had two each.  Montano recorded three saves in her second career start.

The 'Runners will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. on Oct. 30 to take on the University of North Dakota before returning to the Main Soccer Field to face the University of San Diego in their final game of the season.
