There is now a hair salon on campus. The salon in located inside the Student Union. The owner, Leticia Garza, and her brother, Ricardo Garza are the stylists. Leticia Garza handles the female clients while Ruben takes care of the men. Leticia is currently holding a promotion of $15 haircuts plus styles for all students, and $7 for men’s haircuts. Leticia does not do perms; however, she cuts, colors, and styles hair.
Both Leticia and Ruben are English majors at CSUB. Leticia previously worked at Indigo salon on Ming Avenue. She has been a hair stylists for 9 years, and worked at Indigo for 7 of those years. She decided to open the hair salon at CSUB because she saw an opportunity with the vacant space which her salon now occupies. Although she feared losing some clientele when moving to CSUB, her experience so far has been a positive one with old and new clients.
Leticia is confident of her salon having success, “I have my regulars that still come in,” said Leticia. She also said the shop has been incredibly busy since it opened. Leticia approximated that 15-20 CSUB students have already been in to get their hair cut and styled. Leticia saw the opportunity at CSUB for great customers, she said, and she plans on having her shop open for a long time.
