Ashbey and Boos make history, named to All-WWPA first team




For the first time in Cal State Bakersfield water polo history, two Roadrunners were named to the Western Water Polo Associations All-Conference team. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Ashbey and driver Hillary Boos were named to the WWPA first team Monday, following a fifth-place finish at the conference championships.

Boos led the ’Runners in three statistical categories. She had 58 goals, 33 assists and 89 steals.

Ashbey played in goal for CSUB every minute of every match in 2002. She blocked a career-high 260 shots while allowing 199 goals. She was second on the team in steals with 77 and protected the ball with just 15 turnovers.

As a team, CSUB made great strides in 2002. The ’Runners finished with a 19-10 overall record. Nine of the 10 losses were to teams ranked in the top 20.
