Election Candidate’s Statements

President

Scott Berry I feel that by running for this position I can help enrich the lives of the students that attend CSUB. This position gives me the opportunity to do my part in helping this campus grow academically and socially. This position comes with great responsibility, and I feel I am more than qualified to carry out this position.

Ricardo Salinas I will do well as ASI President since I have two years of experience in the position. I have had plenty of opportunities to familiarize myself with the day-to-day operations of ASI; thus I can focus on greater issues, like the Wellness Center and strengthening the relationship between students, ASI, administration, and the university as a whole.

Vice President of Internal Affairs

Bashar Algabyali I am seeking this position so I can apply the skills I have learned in the past two years on the ASI Board to better serve the students. As your VP of Internal Affairs, I plan to make sure you are represented in every aspect of decision-making at CSUB.

Christopher Burgy I would like to be elected to this position because I want to ensure an ethical representative body is put in place as well as protecting the rights of the students. I am further interested in making ASI more present and bringing the Runners back to campus.

Sandra Nesheiwat My interest in student government has been around since junior high, and I have definitely kept pursuit of that interest. I have the experience necessary to be VP of Internal, as I have spent the last 3 years on the Internal Committee, working closely with the VP. I have come to realize what kind of a commitment being an executive officer takes. It is a great time commitment that required planning, initiative, dedication, and a willingness to put the Board and students high on my priority list.

Vice President of External Affairs

Liesel Ilarde I would like the opportunity to fill the position of Vice President of External Affairs, because I feel that I can make a real contribution to the students of CSUB by providing a variety of activities and discounts through our community businesses. I feel that I have new and creative ideas that will benefit the students that are located on and off this campus (Antelope Valley).

Vice President of Finance Jarrett Fisher The students should come first, not the leaders. For far too long, ASI has been operating at a status quo. Now it’s time to expand services for all CSUB students.

Dorina Fletcher I think that I would be able to represent the students well in this position because I served on the Finance Committee, IRA Committee, and various campus committees that are relevant to finance and the students. I am also highly involved on and off campus and I am a very honest person. I am also dedicated to my job of helping others in all areas.

David Sandez I strongly believe it takes hard work to uphold this position. I also believe that I am the best candidate for this position. My peers say I have the best work ethic.

Vice President of Programming

Matt Escalante The position of VP of Programming is a valuable position to the students of Cal State Bakersfield, but it’s also a position that has a lot of room for improvement. I feel there are simply not enough activities to benefit the students, and the few that there are usually don’t do a very effective job. As the VP of Programming, I will work diligently to improve the quantity and quality of student activities to help bring students together and make their time at Cal State more memorable.

Steve Garza I am the man!

Heather Patterson For two years I served as a student-at-large for the Programming committee and as Director of Education. As Programming student-at-large, I was Director of Homecoming and assisted in planning and executing activities including Say-What-Karaoke, free food events, and concerts. I am devoted to serving the diverse population of CSUB in Programming and University affairs.
