Bookstore under pressure with many students missing booksWhere are the books? This is the question CSUB students and faculty are asking more often this quarter than usually. Large numbers of students are still missing books in the second week of the quarter.

Engineering program on hold as faculty, students strive for fundingFor a long time now there has been talk of a budget decrease in the CSU system. Well, it has now become a reality that all CSUs will have to deal with. Many programs will be going through a one-percent cut in funding. The cut in funding will be equally distributed throughout all programs funded in part by the university.

Finance professor loses battle with lung diseaseCarlene Weber, a professor in the Department of Finance and Accounting in the School of Business and Public Administration at CSUB, died quietly this past Saturday. She was 47. Weber had long suffered from cystic fibrosis and was awaiting a lung transplant at the time of her death.

Millie Ablin, friend of CSUB, succumbs to cancer at 77Long-time CSUB friend and benefactor Millie Ablin, who spent much of her life promoting the arts and higher education in Bakersfield, died Monday afternoon in her northeast home of lung cancer after a month-long battle.

King honored in new event at CSUBA day to celebrate peace and diversity is scheduled Friday, Jan. 18, at 9:30 a.m. in CSUB’s Dore Theater. The first Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Diversity Celebration will have more than 200 fourth through sixth graders attending from several local elementary schools.

Life after Gayle is same ole, same ole for Runner menThe CSUB men’s basketball team showed resiliency Friday night. With Lemar Gayle out for the season due to a knee injury, the CSUB Runners (11-2 overall, 6-2 CCAA) played an intense game to earn a 70-66 victory against UC Davis (7-5 overall, 4-3 CCAA) at Centennial Garden.

Lady ‘Runners greet former coach Bruce with a beatingThe unranked CSUB Women’s basketball team (11-2 overall, 7-1 CCAA) affirmed their position atop the CCAA standings by laying the wood to former head coach Greg Bruce and the No. 19 UC Davis Aggies (9-3 overall, 5-2 CCAA) 80-54 on Friday Night, sending a strong message to the WBCA.

‘Runners cruise to victory over ChicoIn their second game since losing senior All-American Lemar Gayle for the season, the CSUB Runner (12-2 overall, 7-2 CCAA) men’s basketball team outlasted the Chico State Wildcats (3-10 overall, 1-7 CCAA) on Sunday, 79-59, at the Centennial Garden.
