Single Subject Teaching Credential
This full-time program is offered on the College of the Canyons campus and is designed for those who wish to have a career in teaching at the Junior High or High School level. The program also prepares teachers to meet the academic neeeds of English language learners through English language development at the junior high school and senior high levels. The Preliminary Credential authorizes the holder to teach in a single subject junior high or senior high classroom.
The Single Subject program is cohort based. Admission to the program is during the Fall quarter only, with prerequisites offered in the Summer quarter. Program prerequisites and application requirements must be completed before candidates will be admitted to the credential program and are able to enroll in credential coursework. Program completion takes three consecutive quarters, and is divided into three Stages. For candidates admitted for the Fall cohort, program completion will be Spring quarter.
Admission to the Fall cohort allows the candidates guaranteed enrollment in all credential classes offered for their cohort. Our program is designed to accommodate the needs of full-time working candidates through Stages I & II. Evening and weekend courses are offered throughout the program. Courses are face-to-face and online and require full attendance to successfully complete the program. Students will be required to visit a High School classroom at times during Stage I. When candidates advance to Stage III, they will be placed in a High School classroom during the full school day, Monday through Friday.

Exluding Prerequisites, an overall total of 48-quarter units are required for the preliminary credential.
