Online Master of Science in Administration

This online Master of Science in Administration program is structured to combine attainment of general competencies highly valued in all professions with elective coursework pertinent to specific careers. Foundation and Core requirements build general competencies relating to written and interpersonal communication, quantitative decision-making, project evaluation, project management, program evaluation, organizational architecture, and human resource management.  Elective requirements are met through an approved course pattern that achieves either breadth in administration or depth in an area of emphasis chosen by the student and approved by the Academic Coordinator for the MSA program.

Specialized coursework in a student’s area of emphasis may be completed at CSU Bakersfield’s main campus or transferred from another accredited institution.  Up to 13 quarter units of graduate coursework can be transferred into the MSA program.  Student and programmatic outcomes are assessed throughout the program as well as in a capstone course requiring the compilation of a portfolio and culminating project

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university
  • 2.75 GPA in the last 90 units of undergraduate coursework
  • Resume summarizing work experience
  • Written statement of personal goals and program objectives
  • Three professional references (reference forms are included in the MSA Application)
    Completed Extended University Graduate Application
    One official transcript from each college attended. Digital copies are not accepted. Official hard copy transcripts are required
  • $75 application fee
  • Potential for success as demonstrated via the application packet

Master's programs require currency of coursework. No courses over seven years old will be counted toward completion of a graduate degree.

The MSA Admission Committee takes a holistic approach to admission decisions.  Acceptance into the MSA program is based on the student’s potential for academic and professional success.  Students admitted to the program with a Conditionally Classified standing, advance to Classified standing as various benchmarks are attained.

Upon approval of the Academic Coordinator, in consultation with the Admission Committee, students not meeting all program entrance requirements may be admitted to the program with Conditionally Classified Standing.  In these cases, the Academic Coordinator will develop criteria on an individual basis that must be met for advancement to Classified Standing.

Graduation Requirements

  • Completion of a minimum of 45 quarter units of coursework
  • Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in all coursework. No courses with a grade lower than a C will be counted towards completion of the program
  • Completion of ADM 690 Capstone with a grade of B or better
