Offered at the Lancaster University Center, the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program offers academic excellence and diversity, high quality student experiences, and community engagement. The mission of the graduate program is career preparation and development for policy/decision-making, managerial, and administrative positions in the public and nonprofit sectors. The program is especially responsive to regional government and nonprofit sector needs, preparing graduates for state and local managerial and public service leadership.

Individuals enrolled in the MPA program engage in learning experiences to develop new skills and expertise that prepare them for positions with government agencies at all levels; nonprofit organizations; and private organizations with significant government interactions.  The CSUB Public Administration department has a strong commitment to professional development among public and nonprofit professionals.

Specialized coursework in a student’s area of emphasis may be completed at CSU Bakersfield’s main campus or transferred from another accredited institution.  Up to 13 quarter units of graduate coursework can be transferred into the MPA program.  Student and programmatic outcomes are assessed throughout the program as well as in a culminating activity requiring the Master’s project.
