Disabled Student Services
California State University Bakersfield was planned with a dedication to academic excellence and an emphasis on accommodating student needs. This philosophy is extended to all students and is implemented for students with disabilities through the CSUB Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.
Student accommodation extends beyond the CSUB campus to students participating in either a degree or credential program at any of the remote delivery sites. Together, the CSUB Office of Services for Students with Disabilities and Regional Programs work to provide the necessary services for students to achieve their optimum level of performance. Students taking classes on the COC campus have the additional support of the COC Office of Disabled Students Programs & Services.
Services are available to all admitted and enrolled students with verified temporary or permanent disabilities. In order to obtain verification, a disabled student must be assessed and, when appropriate, provide medical documentation. All contacts and obtained information are confidential within CSU policies and state and federal laws.
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), defines a "person with a disability" as anyone with a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning or working.
If you have a disability that may impede your ability to take courses, please contact the Regional Programs office. Since not all accommodations are readily available at all remote delivery sites, it is important that Regional Programs be apprised of any services or equipment necessary well in advance of your expected enrollment.
