This is our second year participating in the annual nation-wide Recyclemania competition!. The friendly contest includes more than 600 colleges and universities across the country competing over which can recycle the most waste over eight weeks, from Feb. 3 to March 30.

2013 E-Waste Recyvling dates: Friday and Saturday, February 8th & 9th only, at the former Southwest Little League parking lot on Camino Media and Southwest Drive. E-waste materials will be accepted from off-campus and on-campus recyclers.

Recycle Goals

CSUB has a goal of diverting 50 percent of our waste from going to the landfill. Currently, we are at 36 percent, with only 17 percent coming from recycling. Let's blast past the 50 percent mark by becoming Recyclemaniacs!

To prepare, CSUB installed 30 new blue and gold recycling/trash container sets throughout campus. We also have several blue recycle-only cans. The cans accept all types of recyclable items: paper, plastics No. 1-7, aluminum, glass, and small cardboard items. Large cardboard can be recycled in the large bin in the southern part of Parking Lot I.

Bag Monster and President CSUB is planning lots of events to encourage the campus to reduce, reuse and recycle. These include Campus De-clutter Days, Recycle Olympics and Green Week. Check back for more details on these events.

Also, keep an eye out for the Bag Monster! This costumed individual is made of 500 plastic bags - the average amount of bags used per person per year. The Bag Monster is here to reward people caught recycling, discourage the use of single-use plastic bags, and encourage the use of reusable bags. Don't run when you see the Bag Monster coming - recycle!

For students who want to make difference from behind the camera, Recyclemania is hosting "The Spirit of Recycling" 2012 video contest. Tope prize is $500 cash to the individual or team with the winning video. Second prize is $250. Upload your video by 3:00 p.m. Eastern on February 21, 2012.
