Competitions

Crate Stacking Competition | Tuesday, September 12th - all day!
The goal of this competition is to see how fast competitors can stack 24 milk crates on top of one another without falling over while being harnessed into our 35-ft overhang. Each participant will be given one practice attempt in which they will only be able to practice stacking 5 crates. On their official attempt, fastest times and crate heights will be recorded with 3 top placers in both a men’s and a women’s division earning prizes. We will also be having a raffle in which all other competitors that manage to stack 5 crates without falling over will be placed in to win smaller prizes.

Dyno Competition | Wednesday, October 18th - all day!

Participants attempt to complete the most dynos problems in the fewest attempts, which will all range in difficulty from V0 up to V8. Alta Project

Have you ever wanted to reach the top of mountains such as Half Dome, Mt. Everest, or even Mt. Olympus (3 times taller than the highest mountain on earth)? Well now is your chance! The Alta project is a long-term program that tracks how high you have climbed during your time at CSUB. As you reach taller peaks you have the opportunity win an assortment of prizes. Not only can you reach the peaks of some of the tallest mountains in the world, but you can do it for free while staying in the comfort of the Student Recreation Center.

Women Rock
Every other Wednesday night from 5pm- 8pm will be a fun night of programming geared towards the female community, so invite some friends and come climb with us. This is a great way to be a part of the amazing climbing community at CSUB. Our female instructors will help you one on one go over basic movement skills such as footwork and following routes on our boulder and tower. If it’s your first time climbing, we will show you how to use the equipment and take you on a gym orientation discussing the facility and safety. After that, you can climb for as long as you like! This is a perfect night to try rock climbing for the first time and mingle with other female climbers in the rock climbing community.

Past Competitions

Bouldering Competition
In bouldering competitions, the aim is to master five to six short boulder problems ranging from V0 up to V8 with as few attempts as possible. Each problem will range in points with the harder problems being worth more points. If competitors complete the problem on their first attempt they will earn the maximum amount of points. Each time the participant falls, they will lose a portion of the potential points they could of earn. We will be having both a men’s and women’s beginner and intermediate division. We will also be having a raffle in which all participants that compete at three of the problems in their division can be placed in to win smaller prizes. Competitors will have two and a half hours to earn as many points as they can with all prizes being announced the following day.

Speed Climbing Competition
Competitors will be timed to see how fast they can make it up two of our 32-ft walls while being harnessed into an auto belay. The fastest times of those two walls will be averaged and will be their official time. Competitors will be racing up a fairly easy 5.7 route and must hit the bell at the top of each wall which will indicate they have finished. Participants will only be allowed 3 practice attempts prior to their official attempt. Top three placers in both a men’s and women’s division will earn prizes with all other competitors that make it up both routes being placed into a raffle to have a chance of earning smaller prizes.
