Psychology Position Announcement

The Department of Psychology at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) seeks to fill two one-year lecturer positions with start dates of September 1, 2008:

1. Lecturer, full-time – Cognitive Psychology – Bakersfield Campus  

The first position is in cognitive psychology teaching undergraduate research methods, cognitive psychology, cognitive psychology lab, graduate history and systems, and psychology as a profession.

2. Lecturer, approximately 3/4-time – General Psychology – Antelope Valley Campus  

The second position is for a strong generalist who can teach undergraduate courses in child psychology, social psychology, abnormal psychology, interpersonal and group skills, and psychology as a profession.

The Department of Psychology is one of the largest academic programs in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, with 13 tenured and tenure-track faculty, more than 500 undergraduate majors, and 5 graduate students in a growing MA program. Through the main campus, the Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology; the Department also co-sponsors a two-year Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. Since Fall 1999, the Department has sponsored a baccalaureate degree program at the University’s off-campus center in Antelope Valley (Lancaster, CA), which has about 100 students enrolled and a tenure-track faculty member.  Expertise with distance learning and web-based courses is desirable. The new faculty member will be expected to work collaboratively to help maintain a strong, student-centered program in psychology. Qualifications: 1) Earned doctorate preferred, 2) Effectiveness in teaching, and 3) Commitment to the ethnically and culturally diverse population served by the University.

  1. Letter of application addressing the responsibilities and qualifications described above.
  2. Current vita.

  4. Letters of support from at least three (3) references listed above.
  5. Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
