How To
Participate in a Research Study
(for students in Psyc 100)
1.
Go to the Participant Pool bulletin board located across from DDH
D111.
2. View the posted Request for
Participants forms to see which studies interest you most. On each Request
for Participants form you will notice a description of the study, the names
of the investigators, the number of participation credits available, the
time, date, and location of the study, and a set of lines for signing up.
3. Choose a study by signing
on an open line (if there are no open lines, the study is closed). You
may not sign up or be recruited for a study conducted by the instructor of
your Psychology 100 class. If you come to a study run by your instructor,
you will not be allowed to participate. Copy the time, date, and location
of the study as well as the investigator’s name and phone number.
4. On the day of the study,
arrive at the appropriate location at the appropriate time. If you are late
you will not be allowed to participate and will not receive credit. After
meeting the investigator, you will be told more details about the study and
will sign consent forms. If you cannot make a study for which you have signed
up, please contact the investigator and give 24-hour notice, if possible.
5. After completing your participation,
you will receive a signed receipt from the investigator certifying your participation.
The receipt comes in three parts: one is for the investigator, one is for
your records and one is for your Psychology 100 instructor. In order to receive
credit, you must give a copy to your Psychology 100 instructor.
To help you
keep track of your participation in the pool, you are encouraged to update
a Participation Log after each study, which can be picked up by the Participation
Pool bulletin board.
