Mike Broida wanted to attend CSUB because "it's a great campus with room to grow," said the 20- year-old disc jockey. "Instead of attending a huge campus, I chose to attend a medium-sized campus with great potential and room to grow. Other than my education, I feel that CSUB has given me the chance to grow as well with the fraternity and connections that I have made thus far."
The business major enjoys campus Greek life as part of Kappa Alpha Order. "Kappa Alpha Order is the longest running fraternity on campus," he detailed. "We have been at CSUB since 1987 and established nationally since 1865. The fraternity is based on the ideals of chivalry, brotherhood and respect. We are an order because we require a 100 percent vote for a nomination for membership as opposed to a majority vote.
"KA has opened career opportunities for me as well as given me the chance to meet tons of new people. It also has given me the chance to do great things and go places that I never would've gone to before. This past year, I traveled to Berkeley, Virginia, and Texas thanks to KA. Our philanthropy of choice is the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We also put on a large fundraiser for the Virginia Tech victims last year. We take pride in our community service and are always willing to work with other Greeks to make our community better."
Broida works at Kern Schools Federal Credit Union and also at Play 103.9. "
I have been a DJ since I was in the 8th grade and it has become a big part of my life. It provides income, connections and many opportunities…I am also involved in the hip-hop community and am part of Black Diamondz Music Group and rap group D-Squad." Brodia enjoys playing the music at every kind of event. "Weddings, house parties, hip-hop concerts, high school and college events, comedy shows, club events, anniversaries, I've done them all," he said.
"My plans for the future are to make my fraternity better than when I joined it, use the knowledge that I have learned at CSUB to become successful and have lots of fun along the way," Broida said. "I feel that there should always be a balance in life and no person should focus strictly on work and school without having fun as well."
