The best preparation for a legal career

“Pre-Law” is not a discipline.  It is a career intention, and as such, it demands careful academic planning.  Part of that planning is to choose college courses that provide a basis for the study of law in a U.S. law school.

At California State University, Bakersfield, three disciplines that are critically important in law today offer a pre-law concentration in their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree programs:

  • Economics: The primary subject of law in a free-market economy
  • Philosophy: A discipline that specializes in abstract reasoning
  • Political Science: A social science focused on public authority

Students who plan to attend law school are also encouraged to pursue a Pre-Law minor in one of these disciplines.
