An ancillary project to the Preschool Literacy Project was the Family Literacy Book Drive. Target Reading First Collaborative spearheaded a county-wide book drive to provide books for the pre-k classroom libraries and for the preschool children’s homes. This book drive met with great success. CSUB students, hired by a university grant, decorated donation boxes that were placed in over 80 different locations. They then picked up the books, counted and sorted them, and distributed them to the 11 pre-k classrooms. About 5000 children’s books and over 1000 books for the families were donated.
