November 9th, We welcome distinguished philosopher Dr. Ruth Anna Putnam, who will be speaking to the CSUB community at 7:00pm, Location TBA. Dr. Putnam’s lecture is entitled "William James's Philosophy of Religion." A book signing will immediately follow (The Cambridge Companion to William James, ed. Ruth Anna Putnam, Cambridge University Press, 1997. ISBN: 0521459060).
November 10th, We also welcome distinguished philosopher Dr. Hilary Putnam, who be speaking to the CSUB community at 7:00pm, Location TBA. July 29th. Philosophers’ Café. Meet other local people to discuss fundamental issues. Philosophers’ Cafe meets on the last Friday of every month, from 12:00-1:30pm, at Russo’s Books Marketplace, 9000 Ming Ave. The next meeting will take place on July 29th, and the topic of discussion will the proper relationship between Religion and Politics.
Spring, 2005
May 11th. The 19th Annual Charles W. Kegley Memorial Lecture, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning writer Tim Rutten, will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 7pm in the CSUB Student Union Multi-Purpose Room. The title of the talk is Is There Life After Fox? American Journalism Tries to Speak to a Polarized Audience.
May 18th. Physician Assisted Suicide: Should the California Compassionate Choice Act Become Law? An information session on physician assisted suicide, sponsored by the Kegley Institute of Ethics and End-of-Life Choices of Greater Bakersfield, will be held May 18, 2005, at 7pm in the CSUB Student Union Multi-Purpose Room. The panel includes Jennifer A. Black, M.D., Physician Leader, Hospice and Palliative Care, Kaiser Permanente, Kern County; Julie McMurchie, J.D., Oregon Compassion and Choices; Monsignor Ronald J. Swett, Pastor of St. Philip the Apostle Church, Bakersfield; and Christopher Meyers, Ph.D., California State University, Bakersfield. The Moderator will be Robert S. Tafoya, J.D., Judge of the Kern County Superior Court.
