Dear Prospective Student:
Congratulations on your decision to consider returning to school for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. The Institute of Medicine's Future of Nursing Report strongly encourages all nurses to obtain their BSN prior to 2020. The California State University, Bakersfield's RN to BSN Completion Program offers new windows of opportunity for professional growth. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to apply for a Public Health Nurse (PHN) certificate that permits you to work in either public health or school nursing and various community-based organizations. A basic knowledge of nursing theory, research methods, nursing leadership, and community health nursing set the BSN graduate apart from the ADN graduate. You will also gain a deeper understanding of pathophysiology which will be invaluable in your clinical setting.
I too was an RN to BSN student and saw the progression as part of my own desire for life-long learning. I felt that in some ways I had an advantage over the traditional students in my program because as we touched on different topics, I had real world experience. The new knowledge I was acquiring added such depth to my practice. I found the journey to be an exciting exploration of the world of nursing.
We work closely with our faculty, nursing leaders, ADN programs, and community members to craft a solid and current curriculum for the RN to BSN student. We receive positive feedback from the community and our students regarding the quality of our program. The CSUB RN to BSN Completion Program is flexible so it can accommodate your work schedule. We currently offer all Nursing lecture courses online. This program is not intended for students residing outside of the Bakersfield, Visalia, or Lancaster areas, as we still require 100 hours of clinical for Community Health.
Applications for the cohort starting Summer 2013 will be accepted February 1st, 2013 through March 29th, 2013. Applications are screened based on a ranking system. Please see the application and the 2013-2014 Program Flier for more information. ***Please note that at the current time, Summer admission is not a guarantee. Until we know the outcome of the November election regarding the budget for the CSU system, we will not know if we can offer classes in the Summer. In this case, the program would begin in Fall 2013.
You may access the program information above using the drop-down menus at the top of this page. Please contact Brynn Schock, the RN to BSN Completion Program Advisor, at (661) 654-2610 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for transfer information and distance advising.
I look forward to your great success in our program.
