What is Pre-Nursing?

Pre-nursing is not a major or program at CSUB.  Pre-nursing is a career designation where students complete a curriculum of classes and requirements for admission to the BSN program.  The CSUB Nursing program is impacted; therefore admission to the nursing program is not guarantee. Pre-nursing students are encouraged to work hard and concentrate on the nursing prerequisites so that they can be a competitive candidate for admission to the nursing program. The Department of Nursing has specific policies on eligibility for admissions. Pre-nursing students must review these policies with the pre-nursing advisor in addition to referencing the Pre-Nursing Handbook located on this portion of the website.

First Time Freshmen

Students who have earned a high school diploma or G.E.D. and have never attended a college or university since high school are considered first-time freshmen.  University admissions requirements for first-time freshmen can be found online through the Office of Admissions and Records for First Time Freshmen. Once admitted to the university, first-time freshmen will work with the pre-nursing advisor to determine an educational plan and pre-application planning.

Transfer Students

Students who have attended a college or university and are interested in CSUB are considered transfer students.  University admissions requirements for transfer students can be found online through the office of Admissions and Records for Transfer Students. Transfers are welcome to apply to the BSN program and complete requirements by the published deadline indicated for the nursing application period. Students are encouraged to attend a scheduled information session to discuss plans for applying and/or transferring to CSUB. Transfer students may refer to the Prospective Applicants section of this website to see if they are ready to apply for the next application period.

Post-Baccalaureate Students

Individuals who have earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university can apply to the BSN program.  Students seeking a second degree in nursing are still required to complete the program requirements for admission to apply and compete for a seat in the applicant pool. University admissions requirements for 2nd-degree student may be found online through the Office of Admissions and Records for Post-Baccalaureate. Prospective Post-Baccalaureate students are also encouraged to attend a scheduled information session to learn more about pre-application planning.  Second-degree students may refer to the Prospective Applicants section of this website to see if they are ready to apply for the next application period.
