Prenursing Transfer Courses

Students may complete prerequisites, cognates, and general education requirements at other colleges and universities. Courses taken at another educational institution must be transferable to CSUB and must be equivalent in content to those courses required by the major. Students can check to see if the course they have taken is equivalent to CSUB's course. The Internet address for articulation agreements and course equivalencies is: www.assist.org. If you can not find an articulation agreement on www.assist.org, we have provided a course equivalency chart. This chart is update periodically but due to frequent changes in course numbering, it may not be 100% accurate. Final determination as to course equivalency will be made by the CSUB evaluators and the Department of Nursing During the application review process. Click here to go to the chart.

CSUB students who plan to take a prerequisite course at a college/university other than CSUB and are unsure whether it will meet the requirements of the CSUB Nursing Program should:

  1. Reference CSUB's course description and compare the content of that class to the course description of the class that is being considered.
  2. Submit a copy of the course description to CSUB Department of Nursing. Students will need to provide sufficient lead-time for a determination to be made and communicated.

The Nursing Department will evaluate prerequisite course equivalencies only as a part of the nursing application process or during a prescheduled advising appointment.

A general education summary will be mailed to students after acceptance to the University. This summary will provide notification of which courses have been successfully transferred and what general education requirements have been fulfilled by those courses.

Nursing courses transferred from another nursing program must be evaluated for equivalency prior to beginning nursing courses at CSUB. This allows the Department of Nursing to place the student in the appropriate level in the CSUB Nursing Program. Applicants are required to provide a letter of good standing from the previous nursing program and copies of course descriptions for all nursing classes taken. This packet (letter of good standing and course descriptions) should be submitted to CSUB Department of Nursing, Attention: Undergraduate Program Committee. Please review the CSUB Catalog available online at www.csub.edu for admission priorities. Call the Department of Nursing Office at (661) 654-2505 for more information.
