May I transfer nursing courses from another nursing program?

Yes. Nursing courses transferred from another nursing program must be evaluated for equivalency prior to beginning nursing courses at CSUB. This allows the Department of Nursing to place the applicant in the appropriate level in the CSUB Nursing Program. Applicants are required to provide a letter of good standing from the previous nursing program. In order to be considered for transfer, the letter of good standing and an official copy of all college transcripts and course descriptions for all nursing classes completed need to be sent to CSUB Department of Nursing. This packet should be mailed to:

Bakersfield, CA 93311

What if I am an RN or LVN?

ADVANCED PLACEMENT: Advanced placement is possible for California RNs and LVNs. The Department of Nursing also provides a mechanism to petition certain nursing courses for credit-by-examination (CBE) for RNs, LVNs, and persons with course work in nursing from other schools. Students who wish to petition for CBE must have completed the prerequisites for nursing, at least sophomore standing at CSUB, and have been accepted into the nursing major. Please request information from the Department of Nursing, Chair of the Undergraduate Admissions Committee, (661) 654-2505, and obtain a "letter of good standing" from the previous nursing program.

What if I think I have had some of the course material already?

Students who have prior education or have knowledge acquired through practice may challenge nursing courses by examination/s or by other methods of evaluation after they have been accepted into the BS Nursing major.
