RN-BSN Post-Licensure Program

Dear Prospective RN to BSN Student:

Congratulations on your decision to consider returning to school for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN). The Institute of Medicine's Future of Nursing Report strongly encourages all nurses to obtain their BSN prior to 2020. The California State University, Bakersfield's RN to BSN Program is designed to build on your Associate Degree in Nursing and challenge you to explore and grow in new ways.

I originally graduated with a BSN and practiced for many years at home and abroad until I felt a master’s degree in community health nursing would benefit my practice and prepare me for leadership roles. I went back to school while working full time, taking on new work responsibilities, and raising a family of three adolescent children. I went through the master’s program here at CSUB and contended with online learning, new concepts and new technology.  At times it was difficult, but it was worth it for the practical knowledge I gained and the increased depth of understanding of my community and my nursing roles.

The Department of Nursing at CSUB work closely with our faculty, nursing leaders, ADN programs, and community members to craft a solid and current curriculum for the RN to BSN student.  I have used every bit of knowledge and theory the program provided, and have been amazed that I was prepared to step into situations with a foundation that allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the team.  My hope is you will find this journey to be exciting and will look for opportunities to apply your new-found knowledge.

You may access the Fall 2018 RN to BSN Program information above using the drop-down menus on the side of this page. Please contact Program Advisor for transfer information and distance advising.

Respectfully,
