The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (AMP) Program is a project sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the California State University. Its goal is to increase the number of baccalaureates in Science, Math, Engineering and Technology (SMET) among underrepresented minority groups. It consists of two main components: Summer Bridge and Academic Workshops. SUMMER BRIDGE Participants attend the CSUB campus for four weeks to study mathematics and science, and to get acquainted with campus life. They receive a stipend of $600, a graphing calculator (at a nominal cost of $50), and tutoring in SMET, which might prove invaluable later during their college studies. The dates of this year's summer workshop are June 30 to July 25, 2003. ACADEMIC WORKSHOPS These are mandatory-attendance workshops supporting lower-division courses in Biology (CSUB, BC), Chemistry (CSUB, BC), Computer Science (CSUB, BC), Mathematics (CSUB, BC), and Physics (CSUB, BC).
