Qualifications and Requirements

Scholarships will be awarded to students entering their junior, senior or credential year at CSUB. Applicants should be majoring or have majored in a science, math, or engineering field and demonstrate aptitude in science coursework. Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship recipients are required to teach two years at ANY school in a high-need school district for each year of the $10,000 scholarship accepted. The program will help prepare recipients for their jobs in high-need school districts. The term "high need" means a local educational agency that serves an elementary or secondary school located in an area in which there is:

  • a high percentage of individuals from families with incomes below the povery level
  • a high percentage of secondary school teachers not teaching in the content area in which the teachers were trained to teach; OR
  • a high teacher turnover rate
