CSUB Hosts Mobile App Ideathon 2019

A good idea is just that unless the dreamer figures out a way to give it life. CSUB students will get the unique chance to do just that by creating their own app at the 2019 Modo Ideathon on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 in ITV Studio C of the Walter W. Stiern Library.

Teams consisting of two to five people will transform their innovative ideas into an app, while working alongside their peers to create solutions to challenges they might face on the University campus. The competition is open to all CSUB students, developers and non-developers. Computer language and coding is not necessary to participate.

“The goal of the Ideathon is to give our students an opportunity to develop a mobile app that can address broad social issues like sustainability, housing insecurity, mental health, food insecurity and health,” said Dr. Alberto Cruz.

Students may also suggest another campus-oriented challenge outside the theme categories.

Apps will be evaluated on the challenge, the execution and innovation. Creators of the winning app will be eligible to compete against other universities at the national level for a prize of $10,000. The first prize at CSUB is $1,000, and the second prize is $500.

This event is free for participants. The application deadline is Wednesday, March 13. For more information and the application, please visit: csub.edu/ideathon.
