CSUB to offer Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

The Accounting and Finance Department at California State University, Bakersfield is participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program beginning February 2, 2019 and running through March 30, 2019.

“These free tax preparations provide not only community members but also students, staff, and faculty with complete tax returns in a timely fashion, enabling them to receive proper tax credits and refunds,” said Dr. Byoung (Benjamin) Bae, Director and Site Coordinator of CSUB VITA program.

The VITA program at CSUB offers free services to prepare individual income tax forms for students, faculty, staff and community members with W-2 income only. Volunteers are comprised of accounting students that have been certified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) through training and certifications. Services will be offered at the CSUB in the Business Development Center (BDC) Room 218A.

“The School of Business and Public Administration is strongly committed to providing services to the Bakersfield community by leveraging faculty and student resources. Last year the program was well received by the Bakersfield community and BPA is excited to be participating again this year. Moreover, this is a great experiential learning opportunity for our students who participate as volunteers. This is one of the many BPA community outreach activities we are truly proud of,” said Dr. Angappa Gunasekaran, Dean for the School of Business and Public Administration.

Services are available on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please contact (661) 654-3098 or (661) 863-7211 for Spanish.
