CSUB Student Health Services Receives National Accreditation

California State University, Bakersfield’s Student Health Services has received a three-year accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC) for meeting or achieving nationally recognized standards for quality care. This is the ninth time CSUB’s Student Health Services has received the three-year AAAHC accreditation.

“We are excited the accrediting agency is validating the quality of care we know the Student Health Center provides,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Thomas Wallace.

“This is another important milestone for the CSUB Student Health Services,” said Erika Delmar, associate director of Student Health Services. “We continually strive to not only be accessible to all students, but to ensure the care we provide is top-notch and meets national standards. Our AAAHC certification is proof of our commitment to our campus community and signifies we provide the best care for our students.”

CSUB’s Student Health Services helps promote a healthy campus community by providing quality, caring, cost-effective healthcare and health promotion services. It has physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses, plus x-ray, clinical laboratory and pharmacy services ready to provide basic health care to enrolled students.  CSUB has 17 employees at its main campus and two at CSUB Antelope Valley.

AAAHC accreditation means CSUB’s Student Health Services has successfully completed an independent, external evaluation process.  Among the areas reviewed were patient rights, quality of care, quality management and improvement, clinical records and health information, infection prevention and control, pharmaceutical services, pathology and medical laboratory services, health education and health promotion services, and diagnostic and other imaging services.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1979. AAAHC is the leader in developing standards to advance and promote patient safety, quality care, and value for ambulatory health care through peer-based accreditation processes, education, and research. A certificate of accreditation is awarded to organizations that are found to be in compliance with AAAHC Standards.

AAAHC currently accredits more than 6,000 organizations in a wide variety of ambulatory health care settings including ambulatory surgery centers, community health centers, medical and dental group practices, medical home practices, and managed care organizations.
