CSUB to Participate in National Hazing Prevention Week

California State University, Bakersfield will join other universities across the nation by participating in National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW), starting Monday, Sept. 24 through Friday, Sept. 28. There will be many activities for the students, faculty and staff to create discussion and educate one another about the dangers of hazing and how it can be avoided.

“This is our second year participating in National Hazing Prevention Week and we are looking forward to working with the campus community to maintain a safe environment for all of our students, staff, faculty, and visitors, said CSUB Greek Life and Student Leadership Coordinator Maureen Fillmore.

A few key events during the week include:

  • Monday, Sept. 24 will start with a kickoff celebration at the Student Union Patio with messages from ASI President Ashley Schmidt and other campus leaders at 1:30 p.m. Student clubs and organizations also will be in attendance to provide information about activities and other options for students.

  • Lawyer and comedian Joe Richardson will address hazing in the Student Union Multipurpose Room at 7 p.m on Monday.

  • Later in the week, a screening of the movie HAZE, followed by questions and discussion with a panel of campus professions on Tuesday in the Student Union Multipurpose Room at 5:30 p.m.

    The week also will include anti-hazing workshops, roundtable discussions and challenge sessions, as well as bystander trainings and tabling to provide more information and answer questions about hazing.
