CSUB Title IX and Pre-Law Society Host ‘Bodies of Evidence: Sexual Assault, Forensic Science and the Law’

As part of Sexual Awareness Month in April, the California State University Title IX Office, Pre-Law Society and philosophy professor Dr. Debra Jackson will host a panel to discuss issues of sexual assault and criminal proceedings at 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room.

The panel will consist of various Kern County experts, including representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, Kern County Forensics, a victim’s advocate, a defense attorney, a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) nurse and the University Police Department.

“We are delighted to bring together such a wide array of representatives from the agencies responsible for responding to sexual assault in the community,” Dr. Jackson said. “This is a valuable opportunity for event attendees to learn how victim advocates, law enforcement officers, and health care professionals collaborate to provide services for sexual assault victims. It can also help us understand how rape kits are used in the reporting, investigation, and prosecution process and allow us to ask questions about their effectiveness.”

The event is free and open to the public.
