CSUB Greek Life Educates Campus Community with National Hazing Prevention Week in September

California State University, Bakersfield is participating in National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW) activities on Monday, Sept. 18, through Friday, Sept. 22, with various activities taking place on campus to educate and inform students, faculty and staff of the dangers of hazing and how it can be avoided. 

“National Hazing Prevention Week at CSUB is a collaborative effort across many student groups and departments to educate our campus community about what hazing is and how we can prevent it. A variety of programs will be offered all week, but the prevention efforts continue year-round,” said Greek Life and Student Leadership Coordinator Maureen Fillmore.

A few key events during the week include:

  • Monday, Sept. 18: HAZE Movie Screening and debrief/discussion in the Student Union Multipurpose Room from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 20:  A guest speaker will be on campus to address hazing in the Student Union Multipurpose Room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 21: Brown Bag discussion: “Media and Hazing: Changing the Perception,” in the Stockdale Room from noon to 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 21: A Survivor’s Vigil on the Student Union Patio from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Throughout the week, there also will be anti-hazing workshops, roundtable discussions and challenge sessions, as well as bystander trainings and tabling to provide information and answer questions about hazing.
