Healthy Kids Carnival Set for CSUB This Weekend

California State University, Bakersfield will partner with IKEA and other community organizations to promote healthy lifestyles while having tons of fun at the Healthy Kids Carnival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, at the CSUB Children’s Center.

CSUB, IKEA, and other partners at the event -- Kern County Human Services, WIC, Clinica Sierra Vista, North of the River (NOR), and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office -- are working to encourage and teach children the importance of healthy eating and staying active.

“We are excited that families from across Kern County will be joining us on campus for the Healthy Kids Carnival, to have fun while learning about healthier lifestyle choices," said CSUB Children’s Center Director, Gladys Garcia-Jara.

During the event, attendees will be able to complete an inflated obstacle course, fish for healthy snacks, get their faces painted, plant their own veggies, and concoct their own MyPlate, while learning about portion control.

There also will be a farmer’s market, where the kids can buy fruits and veggies with pretend money. Various teams of law enforcement also will be in attendance, including the SWAT team, and the Bakersfield Fire Department (BFD) will bring their fire truck for guests to see.

This event is free and open to the public.  Parking is available in Lot E.
