CSUB Hosting Annual ‘College: Making It Happen’ Educational Forum Tomorrow

California State University, Bakersfield will hold its annual “College: Making It Happen” educational forum on Saturday, March 11, at CSUB’s Icardo Center (Roadrunner Drive entrance on Camino Media).

Registration will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., with the program running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  About 3,100 attendees are expected, including students in grades 6-12, parents, community leaders, and K-12 educators.

The program is a collaborative effort among CSUB and other higher education institutions, Kern High School District, Bakersfield City School District, and various student support programs. It is designed to communicate the importance of early academic and financial aid planning.  The program also aims to inform middle and high school students and their parents about the importance of continuing education beyond high school and the educational choices available after high school graduation.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend workshops throughout the day.  Workshop topics include the ABCs of A-G courses and high school graduation requirements, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, the systems of higher education, and Life Skills and Career trends.  Parent workshops will be offered in English and Spanish.

In addition, all participants will have the opportunity to visit a college and community resource fair with a wide range of vendors representing all systems of higher education institutions, support services for students, and local businesses.

The event is sponsored by CSUB, Bakersfield College, Taft College, Kern High School District, Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), Victor’s Grill, Little Caesars, and Best Party Rentals.
