CSUB Todd Madigan Gallery Presents Bill Jenkins Substation 7 Gallery

The Todd Madigan Gallery at California State University, Bakersfield is pleased to announce its latest exhibit, Bill Jenkins’ Substation 7, with its opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This exhibit is the most recent in a series of site-adaptive works that capture, reroute and represent light as a material resource. Jenkins utilizes common, everyday materials such as plastic, mylar and lumber. He also makes the most of the gallery; not seeing it as an empty space waiting to be filled, but, rather, a territory that is already filled with light and space resources. The light entering the gallery will be captured and redirected through a series of conduit and dam-like structures.

Bill Jenkins is a California artist, born in California in 1981 and based in New York City. Jenkins received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003 and an MFA from the University of California at Berkeley in 2007.

Jenkins has had featured solo projects at Galeria Stereo, Warsaw, Poland; The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Portland, OR; Laurel Gitlen, New York, NY; and Feature, Inc. New York, NY. The artist also has had two-person collaborative shows with Alina Tenser at The Suburban in Chicago and with Chadwick Rantanen at Thibault & Sunder in Los Angeles. Jenkins’ work has been included in group shows at Feature, Inc., James Cohan, Sekkima Jenkins & Co., and White Columns in New York and Yvon Lambert in Paris, France. Reviews of Jenkins’ work have been published in Artforum and artforum.com, artinamagazine.com, Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles, The New Yorker and the San Francisco Bay Guardian, among other publications. Jenkins is a 2015 Artadia Award winner in New York.
