CSUB to Host 10th E-Waste Drive for Sustainability Month

Throughout the month of October, California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) has celebrated Sustainability Month with various activities, including Rideshare Week and a viewing of the film, “The True Cost.” The month’s festivities will continue with an E- Waste Drive on Saturday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students, staff, faculty and the Bakersfield community can drop off their own personal digital and electronic items, including computer monitors and television sets that no longer work at CSUB’s campus near the entrance of Southwest Drive and Camino Media (where the Christmas Tree Drop-Off is held after the holidays). Items such as computers and property of CSUB will not be accepted.

The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Board of Directors is partnering with Alianza Recycling and Metro Record Storage and Shredding, a locally owned, NAID certified company that properly disposes consumer information. Individuals are encouraged to bring personal and confidential paperwork as Metro Record Storage and Shredding will shred documents on-site for free.

“In celebration of Campus Sustainability Month, ASI, along with other campus partners, have provided programming and outreach opportunities that aim to bring awareness to sustainability in higher education,” said Oscar Alvarez, Vice President of University Affairs, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI). “From the Walter Presents series highlighting the need for sustainable economic and social practices to addressing potential environmental issues on upcoming ballots, our campus is committed to cultivating a community of sustainability practitioners. Our upcoming E-Waste Drive exemplifies our efforts to extend this commitment to the greater Bakersfield community.”
