Convocation Weekend Welcomes New Students to CSUB

New Student Convocation Weekend promises to be an exciting time for students and their families, as they are welcomed to campus life, campus resources and the California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) culture. Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 will hold activities in various locations at CSUB as part of the New Student Convocation Weekend. This is a campus-wide celebration that will introduce first-time freshmen and transfer students to CSUB.

Saturday’s festivities will allow students to move into their new living quarters in Student Housing East and West at 8 a.m., while parents can attend seminars, providing necessary information about the services and majors offered at the University from 8 a.m. to noon. Parents also have the opportunity to meet and talk with the deans of each school.

Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the main event of the New Student Convocation will take place in Icardo Center. This is a formal ceremony for incoming CSUB students, both freshmen and transfers, and their families. Much like the Commencement celebrates the completion of a student’s academic journey, Convocation commemorates the beginning of it. The Convocation Ceremony will grant the opportunity for students to meet one another, as well as their faculty. President Mitchell will deliver a short message, along with pledges of commitment by student leaders, parents, faculty and staff, and an overall pledge to support the success of CSUB’s new students. A pinning ceremony with the students and their families will follow.

Over the two days, other various activities will include a “Family Day” Luncheon, a “Getting to Know You” cookout, a Wellness Service and a campus community breakfast. This weekend offers many opportunities for students to connect with the University, fellow students and others on campus.

The day will conclude with the women’s soccer game at 7 p.m. against the Fresno State University Bulldogs. Students can get in the Roadrunner spirit by dressing in their best CSUB attire, as they cheer on the home team from the stands. Admission for CSUB students is free. To
